Highlights: Opéra Bastille Chamber Music Concert

This season, the Amphithéâtre of the Opéra Bastille will resonate with one exceptional chamber music concert, offering a refined panorama of both classical and contemporary repertoire.

An original programme, Between the Ardennes and Brittany, featuring Joseph Jongen, Claude Debussy, and Jean Cras. Each represents a refined musical language from the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. Jongen combines lyricism and virtuosity, Debussy revolutionises harmony through impressionism, and Cras blends modernity with maritime influences in an elegant body of work shaped by his naval career.

Performed by musicians from the Orchestra of the Paris National Opera, this concert promises moments of grace in the intimate acoustic setting of the Amphithéâtre—between virtuosity and emotion.

History and Fun Facts about Amphithéâtre O. Messiaen at Opéra Bastille

Located within the Opéra Bastille in Paris, the Olivier Messiaen Amphitheatre is a versatile venue inaugurated in 1990. Intimate in size (around 500 seats), it contrasts with the main auditorium and hosts chamber music concerts, recitals, lectures, and more experimental performances. Its acoustic and stage design were conceived to create optimal proximity between artists and audience.

The space pays tribute to Olivier Messiaen, a major twentieth-century composer and influential teacher. The Amphitheatre therefore plays an essential role in the educational and cultural programming of the Paris National Opera, notably through activities aimed at young artists from the lyrical world. Discreet yet dynamic, this venue contributes fully to the artistic vitality of the Opéra Bastille, offering innovative forms and more accessible formats.
